As the Japanese automaker, Toyota, recalls some of its latest models last week for repairs globally on account of some technical glitches, Nigeria appears to be isolated from the whole scenario. Toyota Nigeria Limited (TNL), one of the leading representatives of the car manufacturers in the country, has said that none of the affected models is in the country.
Mrs Bukunola Ogunnusi, Public Relations Manager, Toyota Nigeria Ltd., in a telephone chat said the recall will not affect Nigeria.
“With reference to the recall campaign, Toyota (Nigeria) wishes to clarify that we do not envisage a major issue for Toyota vehicles in Nigeria, since by and large none of the vehicles announced for recall and re-fixing have been officially imported into Nigeria by Toyota Nigeria Limited.
“But there are suspicions that some of the faulty cars are already in the country through the gray market, since Nigerians are wide travellers to the markets where the recalls are being made.
