PMAN Election: The Story Of 'Failed Coup' In Osun

DELE ABIODUN

Before the election that brought Admiral Dele Abiodun to power for the second term,  P.M.Eentertainment can reveal that a ‘coup’ hatched by the former President of the  association, Tony Okoroji, was aborted at Gaza Hotel Oshogbo, the Osun State Capital

What looked like a planned hijack of the election, occurred at the swimming poolside  of the hotel, when Okoroji led a group of young musicians namely Eldee Olanrewaju,  Kenny St Brown , Baba Dee, Sound Sultan, Banky W, and others to the hotel premises  at about 10.00p.m. and invited Abiodun for a meeting.

Abiodun agreed to have a chat with them believing that they had come to support the  association. But he was wrong as the convener of the meeting asked him to step aside  and allow the younger generation to take over immediately or there will be war  because more artistes were on their side.

A source at the meeting told P.M.Entertainment that Dele Abiodun tactically  explained to the group how they can make things work and that violence could not  achieve good things. The group left immediately and lodged at a nearby hotel in  preparation for the take over the following day, Wednesday 26 January 2011.

Before the arrival of the special guest and the chief host, Engineer Rauf  Aregbesola, other members of the group namely Efe Omoreigie of Now Music, Sunny  Neji, M.I, 2shot, The MO Hit All Stars stormed the venue of the election inside Gaza  Hotel and started campaigning. They called on the delegates and those present to  embrace change and asked the old generation to quit the stage for them to take over.

The group came up with a poster with the names of their proposed candidate namely,  Eldee Olanrewaju as the president, with Sunny Neji, Sound Sultan Kenny St Brown and  few others as members of their proposed cabinet.

To show their seriousness, Chief Okoroji acknowledged the presence of the group  while doing the vote of thanks.

After much pressure coupled with the presence of security agents and seeing the  handwriting boldly written on the wall they left in annoyance.  They, however,  openly declared that they will not be part of the election

They left in a convoy of about seven cars with Chief Tony Okoroji at about 10.20p.m.

And after the delegates conference the election proper started at about 2.37a.m.
