For preventing an electrician from tapping electricity on his street, a man, Olatunji Ibrahim, has been inflicted with machete cuts on his back and head.
The suspect, Mr. Taoreed Bashiru, 26 was arrested by the police on 23 January, 2011 on Amosu Street, Sari Iganmu, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria and charged with assault before the Surulere Magistrate’s Court.
The police alleged that the accused and his four accomplices attacked the complainant when he tried to stop them from carrying out the illegal connection.
The attack was reported to the police and Taoreed was arrested while the others escaped.
He was charged before the Surulere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of assault occassioning harm, an offence punishable under Sections 516 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, M.K.O. Fadeyi, ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody till 28 January, 2011 for ruling on the bail application.
