The Igbo Community in Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Lagos State has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to extend the voters registration, while urging its members to go out and participate in the exercise.
Speaking during a press conference, the group’s legal adviser, Barrister Anayo Emeanua, said: “We Igbo have huge numerical strength in Lagos, therefore we appeal to Igbo everywhere in the country, especially in Lagos State, to go out and register in the ongoing exercise because your vote is your power.â€
“We call on all Igbo market men, women, artisans, professionals, youths, Okada riders, bus drivers, conductors, Keke NAPEP operators, to ensure that they take advantage of the registration exercise. We also appeal to the market leaders in Alaba, ASPAMDA, Balogun, Alayabiagba, Ladipo, Oshodi and all other markets within Lagos State to sensitise and urge their members to register accordingly.
Emeanua said despite the hitches, INEC must be commended for security measures put in place, especially in the configuration of the DDC machines which has security features that easily recognizes and detects double registration and checkmates underaged persons automatically.
