Two suspects who allegedly raped a 15-year old girl (name withheld) have been charged before the Surulere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, for rape.
The accused, Jumbo Richard, 27 and Christopher Uzordima, 27 were alleged to have raped the teenager at a dark spot along the road.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the victim was ambushed by the accused and raped on 9 January, 2011 when she was going home after watching a carnival held by residents of the area in the night. The accused allegedly dragged her to a dark spot on the street and took turns to rape her after stuffing her mouth with clothes to prevent her from shouting.
The girl reported the incident to her parents and the police at Orile division were contacted. The accused were arrested two days later and charged to court on a two-count charge of commiting felony and having carnal knowledge of the victim, an offence punishable under Sections 516 and 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C17, Vol.11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter.
The defendants were ordered to be remanded in prison custody when they could not perfect the conditions attached to the bail.
