An Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded a Ghanaian, Amoo  Segun, in prison for allegedly stabbing a fun seeker to death on New Year day.

Magistrate J. Ugbomoiko, who gave the order, said the accused should be kept behind  bars till March 10, pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the plea of the accused, who is facing  a one-count charge of unlawful killing was not taken.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Ishiaku Babaji, told the court that the accused used a broken  bottle to stab Michael Afolabi in the throat, as a result of which he later died.

He said the incident which occurred at Jakande Estate, Lekki, during a carnival, was  triggered by a quarrel between the accused and friends of the deceased.

“The deceased first took a broken bottle to attack the accused, but he was  overpowered by the accused, who now used the bottle to stab him.

“Afolabi later died at an undisclosed hospital,” Babaji said.

He said the offence contravened Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos  State. NAN reports that the accused may be sentenced to death on conviction.

The case has been adjourned till March 10 for further hearing.
