To put an end to the lingering crises in the education sector, particularly in the tertiary institutions in the Lagos State, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji has insisted the House would go ahead with the inauguration of an education summit this year in the state.
Ikuforiji stated this in his office at the Assembly complex, Alausa, Ikeja, while addressing top visiting officials of Lagos City Polytechnic led by its Rector, Mr. Rasheed Oki.
Oki argued that it is “the belief of the Assembly that the education sector in the state needs to be broadly re-examined with a view to rejuvenating it as well proffer solutions to the problems facing stakeholders.
The Speaker described tertiary institutions in the country as beset with industrial crisis and accreditation problem, adding that Lagos State’sl higher schools were not left out.
According to him, “it is only the concerted effort of all stakeholders in the sector that can bring back the old glory.â€
He emphasised that the summit would create a better forum through which ideas could be pooled towards revamping the poor standard of education both in the State and the country.
Earlier in his speech, the Rector had informed the Speaker that his choice as the school’s convocation lecturer was based on his sterling quality, having contributed immensely to the development of education in the state.
Mr. Oki, who faulted the manner in which public tertiary schools were being managed in the country, was of the opinion that public schools could be better managed with huge subventions for the system.
