Nomadic Fulanis in Mangari village in Damaturu Local Government Area in Yobe have abandoned the ongoing voter registration to sell their cow milk in local markets.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who visited the area on Sunday reports that INEC registration officers deployed to the area idled the day away without registering a single prospective voter.

All the pastoralists in the area had gone to a weekly market in Damaturu to buy their daily needs.

Musa Liman, one of the pastoralists, told NAN that the women among them had gone to the market to sell cow milk and buy the family needs.

“Some of the men had gone to sell and buy new stock of livestock while others went on grazing.

”We don’t have local market here in the village and cannot afford to miss the weekly market in Damaturu,” Liman said.

Meanwhile, the registration officers were forced to abandon their duty post before the stipulated 5 p.m. official closing time.

However, women in Kalalawa village, a nearby community, expressed regret that they missed the weekly market but could not be registered due to battery failure.

Memuna Ardo, a housewife in Kalalawa, said: “I did not go to sell milk and buy our needs yet I could not be registered due to battery failure.
