The defeat of Apapa by Lagos Island at the Campos Square Mini Stadium on Saturday was like the case of biblical David who disgraced Goliath.
Group B leaders, Apapa Golden Stars, failed to shine in their match against bottom placed Lagos Island.
The Eko side, playing on home turf took the game to Apapa who clearly underestimated their opponents. Apapa paid dearly for under estimating Lagos Island as they fell 2-1 in the match dominated by a determined Island side.
Eko Akete United started the game as if their life depended on it, passing with accuracy to the delight of their supporters in the stadium, while Apapa struggled with the pace of the game throughout the first half.
The home team failed to find the back of the net in the first half. Then, the Apapa Golden Stars were more organised in the second half. They capitalised on a defensive error of the Island boys in the 71st minute, when a player in number 14 jersey, Ojo Ehenemi Abba scored the first goal of his side. But this was not enough to dampen the spirit of the Eko boys. Instead it charged them as they made an amazing comeback through Femi Innocent, who scored a brace in the 87th and 90th minute to send their supporters into a wild jubilation. The result no doubt has put a spanner in the works for the Apapa side and their quest to top the group.
In other fixtures, Ikorodu Central white-washed Igbogbo Baiyeku 7-2 to continue their amazing form. The Ayanguren Warriors have now scored 19 goals in their last three games.
Agege Giants recovered from their mid-week flop to win 3-2 against Orile Agege at Alade Stadium in Ojokoro LCDA.
Idi Olowo Ojuwoye beat Ejigbo 5-3, while Apapa Iganmu and Ikoyi Obalende played a barren draw.
