Prof. Dora Akunyili, former Minister of Information and Communications, has described the challenges being experienced in the ongoing voter registration nationwide as a teething problem that will ease off with time.
She stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, adding that it was necessary for INEC to address the challenges without delay.
“I believe that what is happening with regards to the voter registration and the malfunctioning of the DDC machines is a teething problem that will smoothen out soonest.
“My people have taken the exercise very seriously but there are problems here and there with the machines and its operators. But I believe it will work out. It has to be worked out because we have no option.
“This is most critical to avoid disenfranchising some people. Because if voter registration goes wrong, then the rest of the electoral process is finished and that is why it should be taken very seriously,†Akunyili said.
The former minister, now APGA Senatorial candidate for Anambra central, however, said that life outside the ministry had been tough but she was coping fine.
