The African Liberation Party, ALP, has declared support for President Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming general elections.
The party made this known during its national convention held recently.
The National Chairman of the party, Chief Osita Okereke who made the party’s position known also described as untrue insinuations that the party did not have the financial muscle to sponsor its own candidates for elective positions.
“It is not true that we don’t have the capacity to contest for presidential race this time around.
“We did it in 2003 when we were placed third in the overall votes cast,†he said.
“I don’t believe in betrayal. I believe in whatever I agree with you. I am a man of principle. African Liberation Party wants a change for the nation. When you talk of democracy without mentioning liberation, it can not work. Nigeria is in bondage. Liberation is a symbol to liberate Nigerians out of boundage. To do this, the party has adopted Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential flagbearer in 2011 polls.
”We told Goodluck Jonathan to get the ticket of his party and we will support him. We have four contestants who want to contest for the president.
“I said to them, we have made a vow. I told them that we have to maintain our position. I am a symbol of the party. It is not good for Nigeria and the world to see African Liberation Party as a liar,” he stated.
