Plateau United Coach, Ndubuisi Nduka says his team “must learn to defend better” after frailties at the back saw them lose valuable points at home to Niger Tornadoes in the Nigeria Premier League, NPL.

The game, a feisty confrontation, was played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu because Jos, United’s traditional home was deemed unsafe by the league’s governing body.

“It is hard when you play your home games away from home for obvious reasons but we will try to adjust,” Ndubuisi Nduka said.

The former Dolphins Assistant Manager also reflected on the 2-2 draw with Tornadoes.

“I am very very disappointed because this is a game we should have won. We played very well but were undone by our poor defending. We must defend better in future,” he said.

Plateau United are rooted to the bottom of the table with 8 points from 10 matches and must now start racking up points to beat the drop to the lower league, a fact not lost on the burly tactician.

“Yes, we have to start winning matches. Luck has not been on our side in most of the games we have played. I am sure we will get the results we need to avoid relegation. There are still a lot of matches to play and I am confident I have a good team,” he said.

With the search for vital points paramount in their minds, United will now travel to the Warri City Stadium to face high flying Wolves on 23 January for their next NPL game.
