Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has been called upon to extend the ongoing voters registration exercise to Nigerians living in Diaspora.

Dr. Adesola Samuel Adedayo, Chairman, Apapa/Iganmu Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, South-west Nigeria, made the call during a chat with  P.M.NEWS.

Adedayo said such gesture would enable Nigerians residing abroad to partake in the democratic process in the country.

“INEC has to register Nigerians in Diaspora, because they are part of the stakeholders of this country, especially in a country where we have a sizeable  population. This will enable them to vote in the countries they reside.

“We need to carry them along because they too have a stake in this country,” the local government boss stated.

Adedayo also called on the INEC to extend the registration period following complaints about the exercise.

He advised Nigerians not to be discouraged by problems faced during the registration exercise but ensure that they have their names registered because their  vote is the only power they have to effect any change.
