Silent Revolution: A New Nigeria Begins

The emergence of a new Nigeria has just begun with the emergence of these young Nigerians namely Nuhu Ribadu of our own ACN, Dr Goodluck Jonathan of PDP, Prof Pat Utomi of Social Democratic Mega Party, Chief Dele Momodu of NCP and others as presidential candidates for 2011 general elections. With the coming of these young men which did not come through mere wishful thinking but through dint of hard work, and many years of struggle for change, it is becoming obvious that things may never be the same again for Nigeria.

Please take notice of the fact that the jinx of primordial sentiments and ethnic pre-occupation in the discharge of national assignments is being broken in Nigeria and it is good for all of us. In my very eyes, in the last four years, Nigerians here and in diaspora have risen in their thousands to challenge the status-quo ante and I took notice of their anger as they engaged the world. I have come to the conclusion that emergence of the internet has changed the world and those that think it is business as usual now live in the past.

I believe that God has not finished with us as a nation if only we can go back to work and stop believing that miracle will come without work. A people deserve the kind of leaders they want. With the emergence of these young men, it is now clear to me that we have passed the age of gerontocrats sitting on the drivers’ seat, setting the agenda, influencing decisions, and determining the direction to go. I am convinced beyond reasonable doubts that we have just witnessed a silent revolution that will mark the beginning of a brand new Nigeria to be led by young people with ideas and new impulses.

Never again will this country be misled by a band of clueless touts, nitwits and renegades. I owe an irredeemable debt of gratitude to our committed print and electronic media with the exception of few Pay-Me-I-Write for you organizations, website publishers like Sahara Reporters, Nigerian Village Square , Point blank, Naija politics, elomba.com etc, and the formidable team of Nigerian writers in diaspora led by Prof Okey Ndibe.

A huge lesson has been learnt that it is possible to bring change in Nigeria through team work and commitment to high ideals. Some political turncoats who think that Nigeria is their private fiefdom have now discovered to their chagrin that it is a lie. Those who think they are the final words in Nigeria are now licking their wounds. Just as there is no one South, I can now say authoritatively that there is no one North and Nigeria is better for it.

Now, the last word: whoever emerges as the President of Nigeria in 2011 through free and fair elections, via one man one vote, one woman one vote must prove to Nigerians and the world that there is nothing wrong with our weather, soil, water, air, etc. Our problems have been man-made. Nigeria must be made a destination!
