Lagos Junior League Update: Mba Stains Island East’s Record

It was a sad weekend for the fans of Lagos Island East after their darling team failed to secure a three points at stake against Lagos Mainland Football team in one of the Lagos Junior League held on Saturday at the Astro Turf Football pitch, National Stadium, Surulere.

Lagos Island lose 0-1 to unfancied Lagos Mainland in an encounter played under tight security.

Before the encounter, Lagos Island East had never lost a single match since the Lagos Junior League started last year. Emeka Mba who was a match hero for Mainland scored the winning goal in the 42nd minute to break the unbeaten record of Lagos Island East.

The Lagos Island East who came with large supporters went home with annoyance when they knew that the fierce match could not favour their team.

Mainland Coach, Olasunkanmi Yusuf who was delighted about the outcome of the match told PM Sports that his team won the match because they were more determined than their opponents throughout the encounter,. He said the victory will give his players confidence to go all out for victory in their subsequent matches.

“Our victory today (Saturday) was a clear indication that my team will go far in the ongoing Lagos Junior League. Lagos Island East are a good side but we were better than them in the encounter,” he said.

Coach of Island East, Waheed Kosoko said both the outcome of result was so painful but noted but promised to win their next match against Nathaniel Idowu Boys on Wednesday at the same venue.

Supervisor for Agric on Lagos Island East, Akeem Bisiryu who is also a member of sports committee in the council expressed disappointment over the team’s performance. He said the defeat was serious set back for the team saying that the team need to avoid defeat in their next match if they want to remain top in the table.

“We are second in the table trail behind Apapa before we play against Mainland. This defeat is a big blow to us and the players need to wake up from their slumber if they want to top the table at the end of the League,” he said.
