Driver Arrested For Stealing Master’s Toyota SUV

The police in Lagos have arrested a suspect, Saheed Babatunde Jimoh, 26, for allegedly stealing a Sport Utility Vehicle, SUV Toyota Rav 4, with registration number LH 203 AAA, belonging to his boss.

The buyer of the stolen car, Remi Adebola, was also arrested.

The incident happened at the UGC Estate area of Ajah, Lagos, South West Nigeria.

The police alleged that Jimoh, a former driver to Mr. Martin Owolabi, took one of the car’s keys away with him when he was sacked and used it to steal the SUV where it was parked.

The theft was reported to the police and the suspect was arrested at his Ajah hideout, following a tip off from members of the public.

During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and identified Remi Adebola as the receiver, adding that he took the stolen car to Shaki area of Oyo State for sale.

The suspect led the police to Shaki where the receiver was arrested and the SUV was impounded and brought back to Lagos.

After investigation, they were arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court on a four-count charge of felony and stealing, offences punishable under Sections 516, 390, 427 and 390(10A) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The court also directed the sureties to depose to sworn affidavit of means of livelihood and their addresses verified by the court.

The matter was adjourned while the defendants were ordered to be remanded in prison when they could not fulfill their bail conditions on time.
