African Open Squash Championship: Nigeria Intensify Training In Abeokuta

As the African Open Squash Championship in South Africa draws nearer, team Nigeria have started camping in Abeokuta.

The championship will hold from 23 to 29 January and 24 countries are expected to take part in the seven-day event which will attract stars players across Africa.

National President of Nigeria Squash Rackets Federation, Olufemi Ajagbe, has expressed satisfaction with the preparation of team Nigeria.

He said with what he saw in the camp, he is confident that Nigeria will defend the title won in the last championship.

“The players are in high spirits and ready to make the nation proud in South Africa. We are not going to Johannesburg for jamboree but to defend the title we won last year. I want to assure Nigerians that we will come back home with a lot of gold medals,” he said.

Ajagbe explained that squash has brought international glory to Nigeria in the past and urged National Sports Commission NSC to give necessary support to the game so that Nigeria will excel in the subsequent international meets.

Among the players that are in camp are Jonathan Peter, Sodiq Taiwo, Tunde Ajagbe and Darbark Longi (female).
