He stated this today shortly after registering to obtain his voter’s card at his home town, Otuoke, in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

President Jonathan noted that for Nigerians to get desirable leadership at all levels, they must go all out to register and obtain their voter’s cards in order to exercise their franchise satisfactorily.

The President said government is determined to get the electoral process right, hence it opted to generate a clean voter’s register for the forthcoming general elections as recommended by INEC in order to eliminate room for discrepancies.

He appealed to proprietors of private schools across the country to bear with government in postponing academic activities for the two-week period, saying it was a recommendation from INEC towards a hitch-free exercise.

President Jonathan flagged-off the 2011 voter’s registration exercise in his home town, Otuoke, along with First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, his aged mother, Madam Ayi Eunice Jonathan, some other family members and many residents of Otuoke, at the Otazi Playground registration unit, in Otubuala Registration Area.

After 6 minutes of presenting his data to the registration officers and having his image captured, President Jonathan obtained his voter’s card with the registration number: 90F5AF9CD8219507099.

The card was presented to him formally by the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) Professor Attahiru Jega.

Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, and his Rivers State counterpart, Rotimi Amaechi, were among dignitaries that witnessed the ceremony which attracted a huge crowd that sang victory songs to welcome the PDP presidential flag bearer.
