OBJ's Wife Arraigned For Misconduct

A woman who claimed in  court papers to be the wife of the former president of Nigeria, Mrs. Olufunke Obasanjo, has been arraigned before a Shomolu  Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, South-West, Nigeria, on a two-count charge for misconduct.

Olufunke Obasanjo, who is a landlady of a property on Ogunyemi Street, Bariga, Lagos State, was accused of scattering the properties of one of her tenants,  Mrs. Blessing Johnson.

The count one of the charge against her reads, “that you Olufunke Obasanjo on the 10January 2011 at Ogunyemi Street, Famous Bariga, in the Shomolu  Magisterial District did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by scattering the property of Mrs. Blessing Johnson thereby  committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249(d) of the criminal code cap C 17 Vol. II Laws if Lagos State of Nigeria 2003.

And the count two of the charge reads “that you Olufunke Obasanjo on the same date and place in the aforesaid  magisterial district did unlawfully damage six  crates of minerals valued  at N7, 000, packs of fruit juice valued at N10,000, two Nokia phones valued at N14, 000 and cash sum of N18, 500 being the sales  for the day; total: N49000 property of  Mrs. Blessing Johnson thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 415 of the criminal code  cap C 38 Vol. II laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003.

Mrs. Obasanjo pleaded not guilty to the charges. The presiding magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi addmitted her to bail  in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.

The magistrate further ordered the the address of the surety must be verified and show the evidence of paying tax to Lagos State government.

The case was adjourned to 11 February, 2011, for hearing.

According to Blessing Johnson, Mrs. Obasanjo asked her to quit the apartment without the expiration of the 3 years rent or a quit notice.

“She asked me to leave the apartment without a quit notice. Thereafter she came and destroyed a lot of my goods.” She also sent five boys to beat me up and  destroy my valuable things. They made away with my phones and cash so I ran to the police station for help,” Blessing lamented.
