Perm Sec Tasks Associations In Lagos

Sports associations in Lagos State have more work to do to develop sports from the grassroots.

At the consultative forum with Sports Association Secretaries, Coaches and Secretaries to Local Government/Local Council Development Area Sports Committees recently,  Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development, Kamol Abiodun Junaid   said  the government wants the  associations to be proactive and pragmatic this year, adding that each association should come up with developmental plans.

Junaid told  coaches to ensure there are standby teams in all sports in anticipation of local, national, continental and global assignments.

He also enjoined associations’ secretaries and coaches to be alive to their responsibilities so that Lagos State can make significant difference and continue to be the “Centre of Excellence” in the area of sports.

He said the government, among other things, is poised to strengthen the age grade competitions as its developmental plan for athletes.

At the forum Junaid also disclosed that Lagos has been ceded the hosting right 2012 National Sports Festival and it   is  proposing to bid for the 2018 Junior Olympics.

He said  the Office of Sports in the ministry is committed to lifting sports in the state to a enviable heights in the New Year.
