By a voice vote this afternoon, the Lagos State Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, formally endorsed the candidacy of Governor Babatunde Fashola to fly the banner of the party at the forthcoming governorship election in Lagos State, South West Nigeria.
The governor was endorsed by the ACN last week but by the provisions of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, an aspirant must be chosen after a primary election.
Fashola is the sole governorship candidate of the party and must go through the formal endorsement by party members.
Thousands of party faithful had gathered at the ACN secretariat, Acme Road, Ogba to endorse the candidacy of the governor who is vying for a second term in office in Lagos State.
The delegates, this afternoon simply by voiced votes completed the endorsement of Fashola for a second term, while there was great joy over his endorsement.
The governor thanked the ACN for endorsing him for a second term and promised to work hard to deliver the state for a second term for the ACN, saying that the party remained the one to beat.
Fashola stated that his dream was to reposition Lagos and ensure that the mega city dream was brought to reality and impact on the lives of the people.
Publicity Secretary of the party in Lagos, Mr. Joe Igbokwe said that Fashola was simply endorsed through ratification and that what the party was doing was just to use the endorsement to thank him for repositioning the state and move it to greater heights.
“Today is significant because no one is challenging the governor. This is a way of saying thank you and you are a faithful man. It is just an affirmation of the governor’s second term bid.
“We want to see if it is possible to mobilise six million Lagosians to vote for Fashola at the coming poll using the Obama method. We will mobilise ordinary people to go and register and Lagos, with about 18 million people. We should be able to mobilise between five and six million people to vote for the governor,†he stated.
