New Date Dor Oyo PDP Governorship Primary

The widely publicized governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Oyo State slated for Sunday 9 January 9  at the Liberty Stadium, Oke-Ado Area of Ibadan has been postponed till Wednesday January 12 2011.

The postponement was to the dismay of journalists who arrived at the venue promptly at 8a.m, but  had to leave around 11a.m when the party members did not show up for the exercise.

Tendering apology on behalf of the party for not informing the newsmen for the postponement, the party’s  Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yaya Adetunji said the primary has been shifted till Wednesday. He did not give reasons for the development.

However, at the party secretariat situated at Elizabeth Road, Mokola Ibadan, amidst tight security, aspirants to the state and national assemblies were seeing being screened.

Likewise at the secretariat of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), aspirants into the state and national assemblies were being screened. Investigations revealed that applicants in ACN to the state house of assembly were 115, House of Representatives, 45, Senate 12 and they have all been screened.

The nine governorship aspirants who obtained their forms yesterday (Saturday January 8 2011) are expected to be screened tomorrow (Monday January 10 2011). Among the governorship aspirants are: the former Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties as well as Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters, Chief Femi Lanlehin, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, Soji Adekanbi, and Professor Olu Makinde and Dr. Ismail Adewusi.

Investigations revealed that the party’s  national leadership is favourably disposed to Senator Ajimobi as they have concluded arrangement to hand him a ticket to contest 2011 poll.

But Chief Lanlehin disclosed that he is the best candidate for ACN to contest 2011 governorship poll stressing that he has what it takes to throw out Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala from the government house, Agodi.

Also, Adekanbi said that it would be wrong to give the governorship ticket to either Ajimobi or any other aspirant considering his financial contributions and loyalty to the party.

He said that he has been paying the rent of the party secretariat for the past four years stressing that without a party secreatriat, the party would not have an office to carry out administrative work. A visit to the secretariat of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) revealed that the party has conducted primary for aspirants of the national assembly.

The state Chairman of the party, Mr. Rasaqu Folorunsho said that primaries for the governorship and state assembly aspirants would be conducted this week.
