These days, a coupe doesn’t necessarily have only two doors, especially if it is long, low and German. At the upper end, there are the Mercedes-Benz CLS  “four-door coupe” and the Audi A7 “five-door coupe”. Below them, there is the Volkswagen Passat CC Sport TSI.

The Passat CC was introduced in Nigeria early last year by Stallion Motors Nigeria Limited at their Gbagada auto showroom and is one of the many attempts to  fuse four-door practicality with slinky two-door styling.

Inside, the sporty overtones extend to two individual rear seats to make the Passat CC a strict four-seater.  The Passat CC comes with the option of a rear  bench to become a bona fide five-seater.

Also new is an equipment upgrade for this cool-looking VW. The Passat CC comes with a choice of three engines. Two turbocharged units – the 160 hp 1.8 TSI  and 200 hp 2.0 TSI – drive the front wheels, while a naturally aspirated 300 hp 3.6 V6 has 4Motion all-wheel-drive.

While the 1.8 and 3.6 units have always been mated to the brilliant six-speed double-clutch DSG gearbox, the Passat CC Sport 2.0 TSI had to make do with a  six-speed automatic transmission. However, the 2.0 has since been upgraded with the DSG so that it now enjoys smooth, swift gear changes with virtually  uninterrupted torque flow too. And apart from the performance advantage, this twin-clutch transmission also delivers improved fuel economy. Outwardly, the  Volkswagen Passat CC Sport 2.0 TSI is also aesthetically improved, so to speak. It now wears 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.
