An Abuja Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday sentenced a driver, Mohammed Mohammed, to 30 days in prison for stealing.
Mohammed, 37, from Kofar Naisa in Kano was charged with stealing 10 cartons of juice valued at N21,000 and criminal breach of trust.
Prosecuting police sergeant, Phillip Apollos, told the court that the convict on Oct. 29, 2010 was given the fruit juice from a bottling company in Benin to deliver to its branch in Abuja.
Phillip said that the accused diverted the product to an unknown destination, thereby committing the crime.
He said that the action contravened the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded guilty and asked for leniency.
In her ruling, Mrs. Sadiya Muazu said Mohammed should pay N21,000, being the worth of the juice, to the complainant on or before Thursday.
Muazu also sentenced the accused to 30 days imprisonment with an option of N2,000 fine.
