INEC Trains 3,800 Corps Members For Registration Exercise

The INEC office in Kogi has commenced the training of 3,800 NYSC members to be deployed as registration officers in the forthcoming voter registration  exercise.

The INEC Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Bagudu Biambo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja on Wednesday that the training, which would be in three  batches, started on Tuesday at the NYSC permanent orientation camp at Ashaya, Kabba, and would end on Jan. 13.

He said the corp members mobilied for the three-day training were part of the 5,096 registration officers required for the exercise in all the 2,548  registration centres in the state.

Biambo said that only serving corp members who excelled during training would be engaged for the registration exercise scheduled for Jan. 15 to Jan. 29  nationwide, explaining that some members of 2009 batch would be engaged to make up the required number.

NAN reports that 212 senior officers selected from INEC, National Population Commission, National Identity Card Management Commission, Federal College of  Education, Okene, Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Nigeria Immigration Service to serve as Area Registration Centre Officers (AROs) had already been trained.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Ahmadu, recently told NAN that 1,039 of the 2,548 Direct Data Capturing machines needed for the  exercise had been received.

He also said the remaining machines, including those to serve as back up, would soon be delivered to the state.
