The executive board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, will tomorrow hold its first meeting of the year at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
At the meeting, the board will look into the proposed introduction of a National Open Women Championship aimed at complementing the Zenith Bank sponsored Women League.
The board will also examine the coaches and players’ education programmes at the age-group level in order to address issues relating to age-falsification and set clear criteria for selecting coaches for national assignment at that level.
According to the NBBF, the proposed Women Open Championship, which is opened to all women clubs and states of the federation, is to shore-up the number of games played by women clubs as the number of games played in the Zenith Bank Women League was said to be inadequate and too short to improving women basketball in the country
The board meeting will also consider the federation’s national assignment for 2011 vis-a-vis Nigeria’s participation in the 2011 FIBA-Africa Nations Cup for Men and Women in Cote d’Ivoire and Mali respectively, the 2011 FIBA Under 19 World Championship for Women in Chile and the 10th All Africa Games in Mozambique, among other events.
The meeting will be followed by the DSTV League Board Meeting billed for the next day, Thursday 6 January, 2011.
The league board will look into the 2010/ 2011 budget and fixtures of the DSTV Premier League. It will also ratify the 29 January, 2011 jump-ball date for 2010/ 2011 season.
