The serving overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly and the convener of the Save Nigeria Group, Pastor Tunde Bakare has warned the Prof Attahiru Jega-led Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not to conduct the Delta State governorship rerun election on 6 January, 2011.

He gave the warning today in Lagos, SouthWest Nigeria during his state of the nation live broadcast on television titled ‘Doing Politics God’s Way’.

Pastor Bakare said it would be illegal for INEC to conduct the election since there is a case pending in court involving an aggrieved candidate of the Republican Party of Nigeria.

He said the court had asked that all the parties be served the court injunction and adjourned the matter till 11 January, 2011 and wondered why INEC preemptively fixed January 6 for the rerun without announcing candidates running as at the time of giving the notice.

He also said the election should not take place because up till now there is no credible voters’ register, the reason the 2007 election was nullified by the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin last year.

According to Bakare, the CD of the voters’ register sent to political parties in the state has 13 out of the 25 local government areas totally blank, adding that without a credible voters’ register, the people cannot vote, thus rendering the election a nullity.

“The least the commission (INEC) can do not to forfeit its credibility is to cancel all the illegal processes that have trailed the rerun and do the right thing. The whole world is watching,” he said.

Quoting 1st Kings 20:11, he said the verdict for corrupt and wicked politicians who are contesting this year’s election is that they won’t vote and will not be voted for.

He lambasted President Goodluck Jonathan for failing to deal decisively with the state of insecurity in the country and prayed that God will expose those planting bombs and their sponsors.
