There is no doubt that Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, is using quota system to appoint coaches to the senior national team, which should have been based  on merit and professionalism.

At the Annual General Assembly of the NFF in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State yesterday, the country’s football governing body ratified the appointment of Kano Pillars  Chief Coach, Salisu Yusuf, from the North as assistant coach and  ex-international Ike Shorunmu from the West as goalkeeper trainer to Chief Coach of the  Super Eagles, Samson Siasia, who is from the Niger Delta region in the South South zone of Nigeria.

This, however, did not go down well with two former Nigerian internationals, Victor Ikpeba, a member of the techncal committee of the NFF and Emeka Ezeugo, a  former assistant coach of Heartland FC of Owerri.

The duo contented that using quota system to appoint coaches for the national teams would not do the country’s football any good.

Ikpeba said that the technical committee was not consulted before naming both men as Siasia’s assistants, adding that members of the committee would tender  their complaints when they meet with the executive committee of the NFF.
