Two days after Christmas, disaster struck at the Sogunro Estate, Ogba, Lagos home of the Administration Manager of TheNEWS/P.M.NEWS, Mr. Rafiu Salau, as a  mysterious fire destroyed everything he had laboured for all his life.

A resident of the estate, Bukola Ononuga told P.M.NEWS that the fire started around 10 p.m. and before anything could be done had consumed the flat and  everything in it.

Also commenting on the mysterious fire, Mr. Salau said he was not at home when it started.

He disclosed that he was at a viewing centre not far from his home when he heard an explosion, adding that on moving out he discovered that it was his house  that was on fire.

“It was only my wife that was inside the house when the fire started. She was saying her evening prayers while my children had gone to an Islamic camp,” he  narrated.

He explained that his generating set was not faulty and was not the cause of the fire as assumed by residents and passersby.

Mr. Salau lamented the destruction of his material possessions, adding that he cannot quantify the loss.

“I’ve lost everything I ever worked for, including my certificates; everything I have ever laboured for is gone,” he lamented.

Witnesses said a distress call was made to officials of the Lagos State Fire Service but their response was not immediate, as they came 30 minutes after the  fire had destroyed everything in the flat.

“They came about thirty minutes after the incident,” one of the residents stated.

No life was lost in the incident. The only occupant of the flat at the time of the fire escaped through the rear exit before the fire consumed everything.
