IG Must Find CD Chairman’s Killers

Human rights activists in Nigeria have mourned the assassination of the Chairman, Campaign for Democracy, CD, Mr. Chidi Nwosu and called on the Inspector General of Police, IGP to find the killers of the activist.

Account given by his wife, Amaka indicate that Chidi Nwosu was murdered in his country home in Amaeke, Arochukwu Local Government, Abia State as he returned from a wake keep at about 12:48 am yesterday.

The gunmen reportedly scaled the fence to gain access into his house just as he was entering.  They later locked his wife and daughter in the toilet before killing him.

Chidi was 39 and survived by his wife, daughter and aged parents.

Human rights activist, Comrade Toyin Raheem lamented the killing, saying that the government of President Goodluck Jonathan is going from bad to worse as the lives of people were no longer secure.

“This government has failed Nigeria. Nigeria ’s problems cannot be solved in isolation. The police should wake up from their slumber.  The IGP should probe this killing immediately and find the cause of the killing. The entire human rights community should do something about this,” he said.

Comrade Debo Adeniran, Founder, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL, said the killing of Nwosu was an indication that next year’s election would be violent as nobody is safe in this country.

“If somebody as harmless as Chidi Nwosu could be killed, I wonder what he has done to warrant this.

“The IGP should immediately set up a panel of enquiry to probe into the murder with a view to finding the immediate and remote cause of the killing,” he stated.

Mr. Yinka Odumakin, National Publicity Secretary, Afenifere Renewal Group, described Nwosu’s assassination as unfortunate and tragic and called on the IGP to probe the murder.

Mr. Festus Keyamo, an activist in Lagos called for a full scale investigation into the killing which must be different from the previous investigation and that such must be made open to the public.

National President, CD, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin called on the IGP to set up a machinery for a thorough investigation into this dastardly murder, to ensure that the assailants are brought to book.

“The Campaign for Democracy sends condolence to his family and prays that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“May the spirit of Chidi Nwosu continue to haunt his killers and their sponsor(s) until the long arm of the law catches up with them. Our hearts bleed that the civil rule that took the sweat and blood of many is being put into jeopardy by mindless acts,” she said.
