Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, in collaboration with Shomolu Movement for Justice and the Education Right Campaign has called on the state government to intervene in the recent extra judicial killings in Shomolu where Mr. Femi Olayiwola, a diesel dealer, was killed on 5 December, 2010.
In a statement signed by Mr. Buna .0. Isiaka for the CDHR, Toyin Okanlawon Shomolu for the Movement for Justice and Usman Oloyede for the Education Right Campaign, the groups write: “It is indeed disheartened that the Nigeria Police Force that was constitutionally established to protect lives and properties has become an instrument of oppression to the extent that corrupt citizens now see the police as a good network to commit all sorts of unconstitutional activities.
“It is disappointing that despite several promises by the government to end this shameful act, the practice increases on daily basis and perpetrators go unpunished. The six killings among others were deliberately swept under the carpet by the police authority with the assistance of the Nigeria ruling cabals.
“It is against this background that the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights and The Shomolu Movement for Justice have called on the entire human rights group within the country and beyond to come to the aid of Nigerians to end this humiliation.”
