We Are Committed To Lagos Schools —Sosan

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Sosan, has restated government’s commitment to making public schools in the state a model for measuring the standard of secondary education in the country through the implementation of sustainable educational programmes.

Sosan made the declaration at the formal launch of the Lagos State Education Year Book held at Adeyemo Bero Hall, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

The Education Year Book, the first of its type, chronicles the policies, programmes and activities of the Lagos State education sector since 1967 when the state was created.

According to her, the publication was meant to keep accurate and reliable records of events in the education sector, which, she said would help the state government to plan more efficiently for the education need of the people of the state.

The deputy governor stated further that the 168-page book would serve as research material for Nigerians in the Diaspora to enable them compare the quality of  education in the state with those of foreign countries and offer useful advice that would further help the growth and development of the education sector.

Sosan attributed the success of the publication to the support and cooperation of the various agencies and departments in the Ministry of Education and the hard work of the Consulting firm, Lake–Point.

Sosan stated that the effort of the state government in advancing educational development was already yielding positive results as there had been significant improvement in Lagos State students’ performance in public examinations and participation in national competitions.

To back up the claim, she stated that performance of Lagos State students in the last West African Examination Council (WAEC) rose from 18 per cent to 21per cent, while the state also came out with impressive results in the various national competitions.

Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King said that the approval given by the House for an increase in the state education budget from 11% to 13% was in recognition of the giant strides of the current administration.
