The first son of the late legal luminary and social crusader, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Mohammed, has said that the essence of governance which his father advocated, has been actualised in the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola.

Mohammed made the disclosure in a chat with P.M.NEWS at the maiden Eko Awards held recently at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, where Gani was honoured posthumously with Good Governance award.

Simultaneously on the Mainland at the Household of God Church, Gani was again presented posthumously with the Grace 2010 KARIS award, which carries a cash prize of N1 million.

While Mohammed represented his father at the Island event, his mother and Gani’s first wife, Ganiat, represented her husband at the Mainland occasion.

Responding to the gesture bestowed on his father, Mohammed told P.M.NEWS that the 15 children and two mothers felt proud and are very honoured that the non government organisation can appreciate that the essence of governance which his father advocated could actually be actualised.

He said: “I am happy that it has been actualised in Babatunde Raji Fashola as Lagos State governor and I am happy also that he is a young man like me. So, it shows that I can also do as well as he can if not better.”

Continuing, he said “it is a challenge to all the youths now, if Fashola can do it, we can have several other governors who are his age mates; we can even have a president who is his age mate.

“If you have the ability, come forward and declare your intention and let the old men go and rest. Let us take care of our old men because they have had a period in their own lives that they have worked and they have achieved. So, now it is our own turn.

“All our leaders in this country, even those who are still attempting to come back, were leaders when they were young. So, I think this is a shining example and a challenge to all the youths. We should not be wasting our time. We should be using it constructively.”
