The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has restated its determination for a  cleaner Lagos by partnering with carnival and party organisers during this Yuletide.

Mrs. Folasade Kadiri, the Public Relations Officer of the agency, disclosed this in  a chat with Lagos Bulletin yesterday.

She said the desire to partner with carnival/street jamz organisers was borne out of  LAWMA’s determination in ensuring that residents have a dirt-free celebration.

She called on the organisers to contact LAWMA for support in disposing refuse that  would be generated during the period.

Presenting the agency’s clean up plan for the festive season, Kadiri stated that  arrangement have been put in place to ensure immediate clean up after such party,  emphasising that the private participants (PSP) operators have been mandated to  promptly evacuate such refuse.

Kadiri further disclosed that LAWMA officials have been deployed for maximum  performance.

The agency’s spokesperson stressed that such move was made immediately after the  last Ileya  (Eid-el-Kabir) celebration, where officials of the agency were on ground  to clear all refuse generated during the festival.

Kadiri assured members of the public that the agency is set to clean all the city of  any form of waste generated during the Yuletide.

While emphasising on the need for a cleaner environment and type of gift that goes  with the season, the agency, according to her, implored all big, medium and small  scale businesses to give customised 240-litre domestic wheeler bin at subsidised  amount as gift.

According to her, “it is different from the conventional gifts of hampers that are  usually given during the season.”

She solicited for  patronage of the public in purchase of the bins, noting that it  would more importantly make the environment cleaner besides being a season of  giving.

She also reiterated the ban on the use of cart pushers in the state, while stressing  that on no condition must they be used in the evacuation of waste in the state and  that it is not an alternative way of refuse disposal or evacuation.

Kadiri wishes all Lagosians, clients and corporate organisations operating in Lagos  a dirt-free Yuletide, stressing that enquiries or complaints on issues bothering on  waste disposal should be channelled through the toll free line of the authority,  5577, 07080601020 or 07055893400 any time of the day.
