Early this morning, an oil tanker containing petrol fell along the Oshodi expressway, causing traffic gridlock and pandemonium as  commuters and passers-by ran for safety.
According to an eyewitness, the tanker driver was overspending when the rear tyre of the truck removed . The driver lost control and hit the median on the road.
The accident caused heavy traffic as people rushed to rescue the driver. The driver was severely injured and was given first aid treatment at a nearby pharmaceutical shop.
The LASTMA officials also took to their heels immediately the accident happened. Fortunately, fire outbreak was averted as the petrol in the tanker did not spill on the road.
Also on the same road, a Toyota Camry and a pathfinder jeep collided, with both occupants of the cars sustaining minor injuries.
This further aggravated the traffic gridlock, as both drivers came out of their cars, shouting at each other.
The Toyota Car was damaged beyond recognition. It was learnt through an eyewitness that the accident occurred because both drivers were impatient.
At the time of going to press, the LASTMA and VIO officials were seen trying to control the traffic .
