A council worker at the Alimosho Local Government Area, Bunujo Jonathan, has been arrested by the police and arraigned before the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping a nine year old girl.
The 50-year old Bunujo was alleged to have lured the little girl, daughter of a police sergeant, to his apartment and had carnal knowledge of her.
The incident happened at 1, Arogbonyawo compound, Macauley, Igando, an outskirts of Lagos where the defendant and the victim’s parents reside.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the defendant took the victim into his apartment in the evening when her parents have not returned from work and forcefully removed her underwear. He was reportedly having fun with the girl when her parents returned from work and started looking for her.
In order to cover up the shameful act, the defendant, P.M.NEWS gathered, hid the girl in his room and joined the parents in looking for her.
As the search continued, the little girl reportedly started shouting inside the room of the accused. On hearing her cries, the door to the defendant’s room was forced open and she came out.
She narrated to her parents what the defendant did to her and the matter was reported at the Igando Police Station. The defendant was arrested and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court with rape, an offence punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol.2, Laws of Lagos State.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and the magistrate, Mrs. S.O. Solebo granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties.
The matter has been adjourned till 2 February, 2011 while the defendant was remanded in prison custody, pending the fullfilment of the bail conditions.

This is a terrible event which is important to report but shame on the newspaper for characterizing what the sexual abuser did as “having fun with the girl”!!! I am sure the young girl whose undergarments were forcibly removed was not having any fun. This kind of abuse can cause lasting physical and psychological damage. While being explicit may not be necessary or appropriate, minimizing the nature of a sexual assault in the article contributes to creating an environment where a nine year old girl can be brutalized. Please be more careful with the language that you use!
such people should not be granted bail, but sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour to serve as warning to others,
Why are terrible things happening in Igando?.
May the good Lord help us o (amen)
