Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State has been commended for resuscitating the moribund Traditional Sports in the state.
The commendation was made by His Royal Highness, Oba Abass Ajibode, the Olu of Iju Ishaga, who was among the dignitaries that graced the just concluded one-day Ifako-Ijaiye and Ojokoro Traditional Sports Carnival held at Vetland Primary School, Oko-Oba Agege.
The tourney was organised by Classic Sports in conjunction with the Office of the Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Fashola headed by Prince Olawale Oladunjoye.
Oba Ajibode, while pouring encomiums on Governor Fashola said: “I am very glad to witness people playing Ayo Olopon, cards, draughts and ram charging games in an organised manner like this.
“I’m so excited about our governor’s passion for sports, especially at the grassroots. Fashola has been using sports to empower not only our youths, but the elderly with the traditional games. This is a good step in the right direction,†he said.
At the end of the event, Prince Oladunjoye gave awards to four traditional rulers, two Local Governments Council bosses and chairperson of Classic Sports, Mrs. Olwakemi Jaiyeola.
