The death of Ocean Boys player, Emmanuel Ogoli came as a shock to the Nigeria  Football Federation, NFF and the board of Nigeria Premier League, NPL.

Ogoli collapsed on the turf in the 39th minute of the Week 6 NPL game between Ocean  Boys and Niger Tornadoes at the Samson Siasia Stadium yesterday and subsequently  gave up the ghost in the ambulance ferrying him to the hospital.

President of the NFF, Aminu Maigari said the death of Ogoli was a rude shock to the  football family in Nigeria. He noted that he did not expect such an unfortunate  incident to befall Nigerian football which is battling with a myriad of problems.

Chairman of NPL, Davidson Owumi said Ogoli’s death was an unfortunate incident. “I  learnt that the player had a history of ill health before his death yesterday. It’s  shocking. I must confess, we don’t want such a thing  in Nigerian league again,” he  said.

However, Ocean Boys doctor, Erefa Inengibo disclosed that Ogoli had no health  problems before his tragic death.

Many are attributing the unfortunate incident to undetected heart related issues but  Inengibo said rigorous medical tests were carried out on all the registered players  of the club before the start of the current season and that none, including the late  Ogoli, failed the tests.
