An aspirant into the Ogun State House of Assembly from Abeokuta South Local  Government Area Constituency II, Barrister Fatai Erewumi has stated why he wants to  be a legislator in the 2011 election.

The aspirant who will be contesting under the platform of the People’s Democratic  Party, PDP, said legislative work should be given to people who are knowledgeable  about law making and not just anybody on the streets.

Erewumi, a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria said, “but for  selfish reasons, I don’t know why a carpenter should be contesting for a  responsibility meant for an engineer and this is one of the reasons why this country  is backward.  Until the right people are put in the right place, it will be  difficult if not impossible for Nigeria to make progress.”

He explained that he had been a lawyer in Nigeria, the United Kingdom and the United  States, adding that he believes his experience  would be of immense help to him as a  state legislator in Ogun.
