A Lagos council chairman and House of Representatives aspirant, has called on the Federal Government to order the prosecution of all those involved in rigging during the 2007 general elections.
Akeem Omoyele Sulaimon of Bariga Local Council Development Area, said in a chat with LG Circuit at the weekend after the judgment of the Appeal Court in Ibadan, which declared Engr. Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, the Osun State Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidate in the 2007 governorship election as winner of that election.
Sulaimon, who is also fondly called Oris by his teeming supporters, noted that prosecution of all riggers of the 2007 general elections would prove government’s commitment to credible elections in the future.
According to him, “the prosecution of those who in one way or the other contributed to subverting the 2007 electoral process will confirm Federal Government’s commitment to free, fair and transparent election in 2011.â€
He congratulated Governor Aregbesola for his victory which he described as well deserved, as the legitimate winner of the 2007 governorship election in Osun State as declared by the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan last Friday.
He also commended the Appeal Court judges for “serving the course of justice and upholding the rule of law.â€
