Ifako/Ijaiye, Ojokoro Hold Joint Tourney

The revived Traditional Sports, approved  by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola for youths and oldies in the state, is moving its train to two local government areas on Saturday, 4 December.

Ifako-Ijaiiye Local Government and Ojokoro LCDA will jointly stage a traditional sports carnival at Vetland Primary School, Oko-Oba, Agege. The one-day tournament will be organised by Ifako-Ijaiye/Ojokoro Classic Sports in conjunction with the Office of the Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Raji Fashola under Prince Wale Oladunjoye.

The Fashola’s renaissance games of Ayo Olopon, cards, draughts and rams charging have received the blessings of four paramount rulers, two local government chairmen, two legislators, an aspirant to the National Assembly and top chieftains of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in both Ifako Ijaiye and Ojokoro councils.

The four Royal Highnessess, who have given written approval to grace the occasion are Olufako of Ifako-Ijaiye; Oba Festus Obawole; Oba Rilwan Oluwalambe Taiwo of   Ojokoroland; Oba Abass Ajibode, the Oniju of Ijuland and Oba Elijah Olanire Ebelami of Iju-Ishaga.

Also promised to add colours to the traditional games are eminent personalities like Hon. Demola Doherty of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government and his Ojokoro LCDA counterpart, Hon. Benjamin Olabinjo, who are going to be supported on the high table by Hon. Dr. Adefolabi, a member of the House of Representatives from Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency, Mrs. Kofoworola Ajayi, a prominent school proprietress and former Vice-Chairman Ifako Ijaiye General Hospital Management Board, who has been invited as Mother of the Day.

Others are Mr. Balogun, Executive Secretrary L.E.D. Ifako Ijaiye, Hon. Yomi Ogunnusi, an aspirant for the House of Representatives seat on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Hon Toba Oke, a chieftain of the party in Ifako-Ijaiye, Chief Gboyega Okegbenro, a renowned Media Consultant and Mr. Bashiru Agusto, the Chairman, Traditional Sports Association, Lagos State.

Meanwhile, the organisers of Ifako-Ijaiye/Ojokoro Classic Sports, has promised to make the 4 December event, the fifth in the series, a memorable and enjoyable one.

According to the chairperson of the Classic Sports, Mrs. Oluwakemi Jaiyeola, an ACN Women Leader in the area, “efforts have been made to bring all important personalities in the two local governments together to appreciate and also give plaudits to Governor Fashola for reviving our ancient games”.
