Nigeria Premier League, NPL  side, Gombe United, have revealed the reasons behind their impressive start to the 2010/2011 season.

Coordinator of the team, Mallam Farouk Yarma, explained that the club’s resolve to retain more than 90 per cent of their playing staff from the previous season is one of the reasons behind their unbeaten run in the three games played so far this season.

The Scorpions are currently second on the NPL log with seven points behind leaders, Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC, who are also on the same number of points after three rounds of matches.

“Many people I know are surprised that we have started very well. But I am not surprised with our performance so far because we have kept at least more than 95 per cent of our players that played with us from last season,” said Yarma.

The Gombe United official also said the appointment of coach Bernard Ogbe before the start of the season has paid off.

“I must also say that the coach, Bernard Ogbe, has done a great job since he came to the club this season.

He has a fantastic relationship with the players, the other coaches and the management of the club. And that is another reason we have done so well so far this season,” he said.
