How are you preparing for the Lagos State Oba’s Cup?
(Laughs) Who told you that the Oba’s Cup will hold this year. The Lagos State Ministry of Sports and Lagos State Football Association are delaying the kick off of the championship.
When did both bodies tell you the competition would hold?
The organisers told us that the competition would kick off after the FIFA World Cup held in South Africa, but up till now we are still waiting for it to hold.
What do you think about the delay?
I am worried because we have prepared to defend our title this year. It’s unfortunate that the Lagos State Sports Ministry that is expected to give a directive to the Lagos State Football Association, LSFA, the go ahead to start the competition has failed to do so.
What advice do you have for the organisers about the Oba’s Cup?
They know what to do. I don’t need to advise them but all I know is that many clubs that are registered for the competition are not happy about the delay.
Your team are playing against the Police Machine in the final of Gbagada Mock Nations Cup, what are your expectations?
My expectation is to win the cup because we have come a long way and it will be a huge disappointment if we fail to win the cup.
Was there any difficult match for your team in the championship?
Yes, it was our semi final against Success FC of Gbagada. We met in the group stage and played 2-2 draw. We laboured so much before defeating them in a penalty shootout after playing a barren draw in regulation time.
What are your plans for next year?
We plan to take part in the National Amateur II next year. We will also play some high profile football competitions.
Where do you see your club in the nearest future?
Larry FC have ruled the grassroots football for many years. We have won notable cups in the past and have reached the quarter final stage of the previous Lagos FA cup. We also won last year’s Oba’s Cup. So, I see our club playing in the professional league in the nearest future.
