The much talked about Eko International Film Festival of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), is currently gathering momentum at the National Arts Theatre, Lagos, South West Nigeria.

Since the event was declared open by the executive governor of the state, Babatunde Raji Fashola, on Monday, it has become the toast of movie buffs and stakeholders.

Aside declaring the festival open, Fashola also led Nollywood stars and dignitaries from the public and private sectors to the event as chief host and special guest of honour.

The five-day gathering of filmmakers, which will end tomorrow, is themed Film as a Veritable Tool for Social Engineering.

According to the National President of AMP, Paul Obazele, filmmakers that attended the festival from within and outside Nigeria were afforded the opportunity to examine and evaluate the importance of this year’s theme and profer solutions on how best to maximise it for the benefit of their immediate societies.

Obazele further stated that “as one of our few patrons, the Lagos State governor has equally ordered that cinematography should be made a full course at the Lagos State University, (LASU), starting from the next academic session. He also called for a policy action on piracy.”
