A Lagos-based businessman and philanthropist, Chief Francis Adetuwo Ogunjumelo, has entered the race to represent Ondo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Ogunjumelo, a trained accountant, who wants to vie for the senatorial seat on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), said during his declaration on Sunday in Lagos, that he is prepared to offer effective representation to the people of his constituency if elected into office next year.
The aspirant said he was worried at the level of poverty in the society and promised to work with the administration of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko in the state, to introduce novel ideas that would reduce the suffering of the people, adding that his main focus will be on road construction and rehabilitation.
Ogunjumelo also said he would set a standard for legislative representation in his constituency by being a servant to the people and not their master, promising to make himself available at all times instead of being elusive.
He said he would work with government to invest more in education through his Chief Adetuwo Ogunjumelo Foundation, adding that the fate of the youths would be better off if they were well equipped educationally to face future challenges.
He also said he would encourage teachers by making sure they were well paid and enjoy other incentives to make them more dedicated to their work.
According to him, the area he wants to represent at the National Assembly is purely agrarian and during his tour of the 66 wards in the six local governments making the senatorial district, he discovered that there is a lot of potential to explore which he hopes to do in collaboration with the state government. He promised to open up the villages by way of road construction and rehabilitation as well as make the hitherto moribund Oluwa Glass Industry and Okitipupa Oil Palm Plc, both located within his constituency, functional once again.
He said that the fortunes of Korede Microfinance Bank he established at Igbotako in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state would be strengthened with more branches established in other parts of the constituency to boost socio-economic activities the area.
