The senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district of the Upper House in the legislative arm, Senator Lekan Mustapha, has refuted claims from some quarters that the Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, will be a stumbling block to his second term bid.
Speaking with P.M.NEWS, the Ijebu-Igbo born politician maintained that he will be contesting for the second term under the platform of People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
According to the lawmaker, “by the grace of God, I will run for a second term in 2011 and I don’t see anybody as a threat. Some people might as well come together any time and endorse anybody as their candidate, what does that has to do with the election? I only have issues with my party and the issue I have with them is to get there, obtain my nomination form and stand for primaries. It’s always very easy for people to organise this kind of thing. Didn’t people adopt Abacha as their sole candidate. Did he eventually become the president?â€
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Internal Affairs, responded to the claim by a group of politicians from Ogun East Senatorial District, who recently endorsed the state governor as the sole candidate for the senatorial slot for the district in 2011.
Parakoyi, as he is fondly called by his admirers, declined to comment on the political imbroglio in the state.
“Aside being a senator, as a citizen of Ogun State, am concerned about the latest development in the state, just every citizen of the state.. But then, I can only talk about the party which I belong to, I can’t talk about the state generally because I’m not part of the government. I don’t know what goes on in the government, there is no way I can say anything about them. I can’t discuss about the House of Representatives. The matter has not been discussed in the Senate, may be after it has been discussed, we may now come back to talk about it,†Senator Mustapha stated.
