Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, GOS, has urged eligible Nigerians to participate in the forthcoming voters’ registration exercise.
In a goodwill message to Mushin faithful on Ed-El-Fitri day, GOS stated that the citizens should be committed to ensuring the sanctity of the 2011 elections.
“Nigeria will make quicker progress towards the fulfilment of its great potential as a nation if her citizens foster peace, security and stability which are essential for the development of a nation,†he said.
He urged the electorate to work for the enthronement of positive values in the polity as well as the success of the general election. He said, the citizens, irrespective of their faith, should eschew violence and live in harmony.
“This cannot be achieved without the due participation and cooperation of the citizens. I call on Nigerians to cooperate with government towards the attainment of our collective objectives of a greater Nigeria.
He urged Muslims to imbibe the lessons of commitment, dedication and obedience to higher authority inherent in Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son according to the will of God.
“Let us pray and ask the Almighty Allah to restore to us those values that remind us that our real values are not reflected in what we have but how much we touch the lives of those around us, especially those under our care,†said the ex-chairman of the old Mushin Local Government.
He called on Muslims to use this period to pray for peaceful, free and fair elections in 2011.
“My brothers and sisters in Islam should use this period to pray for our nation as we intensify preparations for the next elections. We should not allow sectarian or ethnic consideration to delude us and set back the wheel of progress of the nation,” GOS said.
