President Goodluck Jonathan has promised a ‘handsome reward’ to the victorious Super Falcons players.
The team met with the Nigerian President at the Presidential Villa after arriving from South Africa on Monday night, and were given assurances that they would not be forgotten.
“The whole country is proud of what you have achieved and I want to assure you that you will be handsomely rewarded,†the President told the squad.
That reward will have to wait until early next year, as a committee has been set up to decide how best to reward, not only the Falcons, but the Golden Eaglets team who won silver at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2009, the U-17 girls team and their U-20 girls counterparts who all performed impressively at their respective FIFA World Cup tournaments.
The committee is expected to submit a report by mid-December.
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF gave the Falcons a three-day break to celebrate Sallah with their friends and families. They will reconvene tomorrow in Abuja to prepare for an international friendly game against the world champions, Germany. According to NFF, the team will depart for Germany on Monday ahead of the friendly tie which will come up on 22 November.
