The police in Lagos have arrested a driver, whose car allegedly ran over a three-month old baby strapped on its mother’s back atop a commercial motorcycle.
Mr. Samuel Jinadu, a DSP and Lagos police deputy spokesman, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Ikeja.
Jinadu said that the incident happened on Sunday at about 7.05 p.m. at Olojojo U-Turn in Oworonsoki area of Lagos.
He said the Ford car with registration number LA 334 KJA, allegedly ran over a motorcyclist and his female passenger and her three-month old baby.
“The baby died on the spot, while the rider and his other passenger were seriously injured. They are still receiving treatment in the hospital.
“The traffic policemen from Oworonsoki Police Station visited the scene and the baby’s corpse removed to a public mortuary for autopsy,†Jinadu added.
He warned motorcyclists against plying the expressway, saying that the law banning them from such roads was still in force.
Similarly, an employee of Kwelaram Plc, Isolo, one Shola Omodigi, was killed on Tuesday afternoon when a truck ran over him as he was walking along Osolo Way, Isolo.
Jinadu said that the driver of the truck with registration number XC 104 LDN, has been detained for interrogation.
He said that the corpse had been deposited at the Isolo General Hospital.
