The Rivers State Bureau of Public Procurement (RSBOPP) is to begin the prosecution of contractors and government organisations that flouted its rules on the award of contracts.
Mr. Franklyn Nlerum, the Director-General, made this known in Port Harcourt in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Nlerum said his office had begun the compilation of the list of defaulters and would soon present same to the board of the bureau for approval before action.
He explained that the decision to prosecute erring organisations and contractors became necessary due to findings by the bureau that some organisations disregard its rules on the award of contracts.
The law establishing RSBOPP stipulates that any service or contract up to N150 million to be executed by local and state governments must be scrutinised by the bureau.
Nlerum said local government authorities had been recalcitrant in complying with the law as none of such contracts had passed through the body in the last two years.
